trees were just beautiful. The Hickory and Maples are putting on quite a show. I think the color will hold into next weekend. I listened to the weather this morning and it is supposed to be pretty this weekend with a chance of rain Monday and Tuesday. . Oct 27 & 28, 2012 is the date for this years 24th annual Talihina Fall Foliage Festival. The festival starts at 8:30 am on Saturday until 5 pm, and on Sunday from 8:30 am until 3 pm. The Festival events for both days includes an Art Show, Art s& Crafts, Live entertainment, and Great Food. Events for Saturday only: Car Show from 8 am until 4 pm, 5 K Run beginning at 9 am.

A new event sponsored by the Talihina Lions Club, ROARING THUNDER POKER RUN will be held Saturday, October 27th, Register 8 am first bike out at 10 am, last bike in at 5 pm for more information call 918-567-5358.

Mountain Gate Poker Run in Talihina, this Saturday, April, 14, 2012
Come to Talihina for our Fourth Annual Mountain Gate Poker Run. Saturday April 7 (April 14 rain date). A $25.00 donation from persons over 18 entitles them to one poker hand (you may purchase more hands) and an evening meal at the last stop. There will be $1000.00 in cash prizes. High Hand wins $700.00, next best hand wins $200.00 and 3rd place wins $100.00, and Door Prizes, and entertainment. Pam’s Hateful Hussy Diner Downtown Talihina Between 1st and 2nd Street will be serving a Breakfast Buffet where the Registration, begins, at 8 am. The first vehicle out at 9 am and the last vehicle out at 12 pm. Last vehicle in by 5 pm. There will be a new route this year that include these stops, Pam’s Diner, first Stop, Downtown Talihina, Long Lake Resort between Howe and Poteau, be sure and watch for the Cyprus Trees near the resort, Days Inn in Poteau, Corgill’s Motor Sports, Poteau, T.Js Diner, Hwy 1 West, Talihina and The Strawberry Patch Too in Talihina. The route will take you North of Talihina to the Breathtaking Talimena Scenic Drive, you will traverse the drive to HWY 259, from there you will go North to Long Lake Resort (on the way there you may want to take a side trip to the Heavener Rune Stone and/or the Peter Conser House) from Long Lake Resort you will go into Poteau and stop at the Days Inn and Corgill’s Motor Sports. Coming back to Talihina take Hwy 271 North. You may want to take a breather at the Golden Pony in Summerfield. Be sure and be back at the VFW the last stop, by 5pm, where a delicious meal will be served while the judges talley the winning hands. If you wish you can draw extra cards for $5.00 each. While the winning hands are being tabulated you can, draw for door prizes and play for the 50/50 contest and listen to great entertainment . T-shirts are available for this event for $15.00 each. The prize money was donated by several sponsors. Be sure and look at the Sponsor Banner at the beginning and end stops to see who put up the money for the winners of the run. The T-shirt sponsors are very important as well because they helped us keep the cost of the shirts down. After the run plan to attend the Indian Pow Wow at the Talihina School New Gym. March 15 is the awakening of the Ouachita National Forest with all of its gorgeous colors. The wildflowers and the vibrant colors of all the seasons make for an enjoyable ride through the Ouachita’s atop the mountains on the Talimena Scenic Drive, Oklahoma’s National Scenic Byway. Some things you just don’t want to miss!
